Food wot glows in the dark
Back when Sri Lanka was called Ceylon, I spent my first year of university living in a flat where one of the people came from Ceylon and was a good cook. I quickly (well, immediately) came to like some of the food being very spicy, though in a different way from Indian curry.
I don't choose to eat the hottest thing on the menu just for the sake of it, and often choose things that look interesting even though marked with one or zero chillies. I am not like Sydney in the Grrl power webcomic
BUT, if the most interesting thing is marked with three chillies, it is no impediment.
Apparently turmeric, which is not spicy as such, is good for the health, and chilli supposedly causes release of endorphins which reduces the sensation of minor aches and pains. Can't say I have noticed, though. Statistically, people who eat curry are said to be healthier.
